Costa Rica- Day 7

Today, we awoke and packed up our suitcases for an adventure-filled weekend! We quickly ate breakfast and hopped on the bus to Los Guido. Los Guido is the name of a town where God is working miracles! As we neared Los Guido the clean streets became dirty, the busy streets became filled with wandering people and the houses became shacks. Let's just say if I were to live in Costa Rica this is probably not the town I would want to live in. But there is this church there that just shines with the light of Christ and we were lucky enough to get to visit it. This church provides two meals a day- breakfast and lunch- for all of the kids in the neighbor hood. The preacher shared some encouraging words with us and he was a very powerful speaker! He also told us that for some of these kids it is the only food they get to eat. Some of these kids come from family where drug abuse is rampid as well as other problems that the parents see as more important than loving their kids. The preacher also shared that the hugs we gave those kids may be the only one they got all day or week. (sadly we don't have any pictures because we were urged to not take our cameras in) We had a blast with the kids! No words were needed- only hugs, piggyback rides, tickeling and laughter! Seeing the joy on those kids faces was certainly a blessing! We also got to serve them lunch before partaking in lunch ourselves. I must admit I was a little taken back by the whole "chicken talon" in their chicken soup but to these kids any food is a blessing. We watched as they would swap their carrots for potatoes, and help feed their little brothers, sisters, and friends. Their love for eachother was so abundant! We enjoyed our lunch- luckily not the talon soup haha and then loaded the bus back up! Beach bound we were! We slid the windows back and let the cool air brush past our faces as we enjoyed the scenery of Costa Rica! Tree after tree, field after field, town after town, and I enjoyed all 4 hours of it! We were so excited to get there we all cheered when we saw the water's edge! We checked into our hotel and booked it to dinner because we were all starving! Some of us discovered that "pizza" in Costa Rica is very different than "pizza" in the US. Our pizza was served with homemade dough, homemade sauce and 4 pieces of American cheese on top- interesting to say the least. We returned to our room and Jordan and I made some creepy discoveries about our hotel room haha. Tonight was my night to lead the devotional- it was my first night to do something like that and I think it went well! Then everyone headed to their own rooms! We fell asleep to the sound of the waves slapping up against the rocks. :)
